What is Counselling

What is Counselling?
What Is Counselling?

Counselling is a talk therapy that provides a confidential time which allows you to bring anything you wish to talk about. This may include talking about life events, (past and present), feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour.

Talking about these things may take time. The number of sessions will be tailored to your individual needs with mutual agreement, and I offer short and long term therapy.

What I Offer

I am trained as an Integrative Counsellor.  My foundation is in person-centred counselling which values the conditions that facilitate a therapeutic relationship which are empathy, congruence and positive regard. Integrative counselling is a combined approach to counselling that brings together specific elements of different therapies. It takes the view that there is no single approach that is suitable for each client in all situations. Rather each person needs to be treated as a whole and counselling techniques must be tailored to their individual needs and personal circumstances.

I work with adults with a wide range of issues; illness, depression, anxiety, stress, bereavement, low self-esteem, body image, relationship difficulties, trauma, abuse and work-related issues.

I offer this work Online or through audio/telephone Counselling.

Online and Telephone Counselling

What is Online or Telephone counselling?

Online or Video counselling is a way for you to see your counsellor face to face from your computer whilst engaging in therapy. I work on Zoom for my counselling practice, if you chose to work this way with me I will guide you through setting up your own encrypted Zoom account and we will meet on Zoom at a time that you have previously arranged. Sessions are 50 minutes in length.  Being able to see your counsellor gives you more of the benefits you get from face to face counselling but with the convenience of online therapy. By talking you hear tone of voice which is a way to convey empathy and by video you see non-verbal communications such as facial expressions.
I also offer audio-only counselling and for this you can choose to only work with audio through Zoom and no video camera would then be needed, or alternatively we can work together on the telephone.
